Been through a lot yesterday and today!

I spent all day yesterday trying to install an email server all by myself (probably one of the hardest things I've ever tried when it comes to technology), and of course it didn't work. So I had all this useless software clogging up space on my machine, and my RAM usage had gone up by about 1.5x, and it was at halfway to begin with. I found an all-in-one email server package for "hobbyist system administrators" like myself, but it was installed by default in a bunch of weird locations and expecting different software while also overwriting what I already had installed (this would be the cause of any errors you guys saw yesterday).

For the past year I've used nginx for a webserver, as it was what I was originally presented with. It does its job, sure, but everything else uses Apache.

So today I bought a new server! I'm in the process of installing the all-in-one package (as it said to do so on a "FRESH" OS install, which of course I didn't do yesterday), and everything is going okay so far. Hopefully we might have a working email server soon, so you don't have to personally email me with submissions.

This also means I'll have to migrate everything, but that won't be too hard because I still have my old server until January 2014. All I will need to do once everything is ready is just repoint the domain names, and you'll only experience trouble if you're on the IRC network (and that's if you consider reconnecting "trouble").

I think I'm in a good spot, nonetheless.

That's great to hear, Shadow. Hopefully all will go well during this process. Keep up the good work with everything.

Thanks Zolastar.

Good news, everyone! We're officially migrated across servers and have working email now. If you experience any problems across the site (I encourage you to try out all the pages), please post it here.

Well, the IRC hasn't been working. Does this have something to do with that? (Also, good job migrating servers!!)

Thanks. The IRC has been working fine the entire day (both the network itself and the chat page), so I'm not sure what problem you're having. Try clearing your cache, or if it's giving you an error then post it here.

Well, I haven't explored much, per se, but way to go on doing everything you did!

Thanks Blinky.

Another update: got the rDNS configured so I can send email to AOL addresses (and any others who require rDNS). The IRC was down for a few minutes because my server provider did a reboot, and I had to remove the firewall and start up everything again. No damage was done!
